Position Summary
The Mental Health Counselor Associate provides high-quality clinical care through comprehensive evaluations, individualized therapy, and group counseling services. This role is integral in assessing treatment needs, establishing accurate diagnoses, developing individualized treatment plans, and supporting clients in achieving personal goals through evidence-based interventions and coping strategies.
The Mental Health Counselor Associate demonstrates professionalism, empathy, cultural responsiveness, and ethical practice while contributing to a collaborative, client-centered care environment. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health evaluations and provide therapeutic counseling to individuals, families, and groups
- Utilize standardized assessment tools and clinical interviews to evaluate symptoms, behaviors, and psychological functioning
- Present clinical findings, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations verbally and in written documentation to appropriate professionals
- Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely clinical documentation in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements
- Adhere to ethical standards and demonstrate strong knowledge of HIPAA and confidentiality practices
- Ensure service delivery and documentation align with quality assurance standards and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations
- Collaborate with internal teams and external service providers to support continuity of care and client stability
- Maintain awareness of legal and ethical responsibilities related to emergency management, crisis intervention, mandated reporting, and coordination with Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, or law enforcement when required
- Demonstrate proficiency in written, verbal, and digital communication skills
- Maintain active associate licensure and meet all continuing education requirements
- Attend required meetings, trainings, supervision sessions, and committee assignments
- Work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Psychology
Experience
- Previous clinical experience required
- Knowledge of substance use disorders, including alcoholism and drug addiction
- Familiarity with ASAM criteria
- Understanding of long-term recovery and rehabilitation processes, including relapse prevention, post-treatment crises, and emerging challenges related to sobriety
Licensure
- Must hold an active associate-level professional license in good standing with the State Department of Health, including one of the following:
- Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate
- Licensed Independent Social Worker Associate
